If you are looking for sound instruments I highly encourage you to check out https://beautifulsounds.co! I stumbled upon them through google and then realized the owner, Karem, is local to San Diego. She does not have an official storefront but allows people to come over by appointment. If you are collecting sound instruments, you know how important it can be to play an instrument in person before purchasing them. This is not always an option, so I am thrilled to have connected with Beautiful Sounds Co.
Our goal on this trip was to get Brian a flute.
Of course we left with more than his flute!
Christina also purchased a beautiful Native American flute. It is the same key as mine and they sound pretty nice together. Hers is lower and just beautiful sounding. Brian got a Native American drone flute. I believe the maker is Oscar Rojas. Wow! His flute has so much potential.
Both of their flutes have a deep, longing tone. I shared some sheet music with native songs that I ordered off Amazon with them. I am really looking forward to hearing them play and watching them grow as flute players. I wanted so badly to get another flute but I decided to hold off since we now have four in the Sound and Movement Collective family! It is so hard to practice restraint when it comes to making beautiful sounds.
I purchased a small bongo drum from bali. I have been enjoying playing with beats and hope this will allow me something to practice and play around with. I also purchased a Sansula Kalimba. This little gem is amazing and easy to play. You simply pluck the metal pieces. Karem showed me how to also make a trippy sound by placing the kalimba on its case and lifting and lowering one side as you play. It is pretty cool. Karem mentioned it is a great instrument to play when people are integrating back to reality after a sound journey.
Karem at Beautiful Sounds Co is an amazing resource for anyone diving into sound healing!
I cannot speak highly enough about Karem. Man, she knows her stuff. She has been doing this for years and really has a great knowledge base. She helps to explain how to play the instruments and how you might use them. She is patient and kind. She is also part of the all female bad ass sound group known as Sonic Devas https://www.instagram.com/sonic_devas/?hl=en. Christina and I saw them perform at the https://wisdome.la/ in Los Angeles and they were divine!
